To
the south of this island-municipality, the vegetation is characterized
by semi-deciduous woods having bushes and scarce herbs with low
development of epiphytes and abundant lianes in varieties like cedar
(Cedrela odorata), the Adelia ricinella, the mastic tree (Bursera
simaruba) or the ateje (Cordia collococa).
Pines are typical. One can find the pino hembra (Pinus tropicalis),
the pino macho (Pinus caribaea), the Pinus cubensis, and the Pinus
maestrensis. In this region the pino hembra mixes with the palma
barrigona (Colpothrinax wrigtii) and the pino macho mixes with a
variety of heaths.
